Choosing between a full container and shared container space is mostly a math problem — but it's one that changes depending on your volume, timeline, and how much control you want over your cargo.
FCL (Full Container Load) means your cargo has an entire container to itself, whether it fills the space or not. LCL (Less than Container Load) means your shipment shares a container with other consignments, and you pay only for the volume you use. Both move through the same UAE ports — Jebel Ali, Khalifa Port, and Sharjah — the difference is entirely in how the container is booked and billed.
LCL is priced per cubic meter (or per the chargeable weight, whichever is greater), so cost scales directly with volume — there's no minimum container commitment. FCL is priced per container regardless of how full it is, so the per-unit cost drops the more you can fit in. On transit time, FCL generally moves faster since there's no consolidation wait, and fewer touchpoints means less handling risk.
We handle both FCL and LCL sea freight shipping in Dubai, sizing the right option against your actual volume and deadline rather than defaulting to one or the other. If you're planning a shipment, our Sea Freight team can run the comparison for your specific cargo.
